The Best Of Essen: Part 2 – Speedhunters

The Best Of Essen: Part 2

A few days ago, I brought you my first look at the 2022 Essen Motor Show in Germany – an event I’ve been attending since way back in 2008.

After a couple of years of disruption, it felt like the 2022 show was a complete return to form, and there was a lot to see at the Messe Essen exhibition center. I couldn’t fit everything I wanted to share with you in my inaugural post, so here we are with the follow up, and plenty more interesting cars from the biggest tuning show on Germany’s calendar.

SH-EMS-2022-6583

First up, it’s the Auto Finesse Nissan Silvia S15, which has an interesting backstory. It was originally built up by Endless Racing in Japan as a dedicated drag car, before being imported to the UK by Harlow Jap Autos and subsequently purchased by James from Auto Finesse. While the exterior has been transformed with a wide-body Super Silhouette kit from Liberty Walk, the Silvia’s underpinnings remain the same as they did when it left Japan. That means there’s a 2.2L stroker SR20DET with a Trust/GReddy T88-34D turbocharger good for 900ps, backed up by an HKS sequential transmission under all the fiberglass. Can it still run 9-second quarter-mile ETs though?

SH-EMS-2022-bmw-JP-6438

We’ve seen plenty of Pandem wide-body conversions on Speedhunters, but seeing one in real life on European shores is still a bit of a novelty. This particular BMW E36  is another one of Jean Pierre Kraemer’s (of JP Performance) creations. One of the most interesting aspects for me, is that it’s running a static suspension setup, not air ride like you might expect. Gepfeffert is a German company that modifies KW Suspensions coilovers – with KW’s assistance – for ultra-low ride heights that still maintain functionality, and that’s reflected here. There’s also a side-exit exhaust, which is currently connected to a M50B28 that – for now – is still stock. I’m looking forward to seeing where JP takes this build…

Travel to Japan, buy an R34 GT-R, drive it on the Wangan and then ship it home. It sounds like a dream, but it’s exactly what JP also did with this Bayside Blue Skyline. He wants to keep the car as clean as possible with just some minor enhancements.

SH-EMS-2022-6474

What started as a simple project for Tom Klein Gunnewiek quickly turned into a full-blown Mk2 VW Golf build. A Volkswagen Phaeton donated its 3.2L VR6 engine for this project, and that’s mated to Mk3 Golf gearbox. You have to love the ultra-clean Euro look with a set of AZEV Type A wheels to pull it all together.

Called the ‘SyberiaRS’, what began life as a 1986 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 (964) for the road now looks more than ready to venture well off the beaten track. The Burkhard Industries build features bodywork handcrafted from metal and carbon fiber, a custom H&R suspension setup and 16-inch Fuchs wheels wrapped up in special Hankook off-road tires.

SH-EMS-2022-6493

I’m a sucker for four-door BMW E30s, especially when they’re thoroughly modified like this E46 M3-powered build all the way from CAtuned in Sacramento, California. I was shocked to see this car at Essen given it normally resides in the US, but apparently CAtuned has a German office to cater for the local market. It’s great to see a small passion-led company like this doing big things.

It might look like a concept, but the VW ID. Buzz is very real and now available from Volkswagen dealerships. I love the idea of full-electric vans, but with a hefty price tag like the ID. Buzz has, I think it will take a while before we see more of these been modified by private owners.

SH-EMS-2022-6646

I’ll be honest, I’ve included this Volkswagen Polo here because my dad used to own one, and therefore the model is close to my heart. I know the owner will be very happy to see his car on Speedhunters.

Just 53 of these VW Beetle wide-body conversion kits have been made by Prior Design in Germany, and this one looks particular stunning in its ‘Coral Peach’ wrap by Teckwrap. The low stance is courtesy of a G.A.S. air ride system with Air Lift Performance 3P management.

SH-EMS-2022-6683

To me, this is the ultimate in car customization. The amount of detail that Brabus puts into these G-Wagons is astounding, and often overlooked.

Is the Ferrari F355 the next big thing for modifiers? They’re definitely becoming more popular, and with that asking prices are already on the up.

SH-EMS-2022-6723

What’s the best way to promote your VIP wheels? Fitting a set to a Bentley Flying Spur W12, of course.

In Germany, it’s pretty difficult to go really crazy with your road car as everything needs to be cleared by TÜV, the German roadworthiness agency which has super-strict rules. Every modification needs to be approved, so it’s pretty rare to see something as nuts as this twin-turbo Audi R8 on the road with all the TÜV boxes ticked.

SH-EMS-2022-6576

Before I saw this car for the first time, I never associated the C3 Corvette with tuner style. But this thing is bonkers – I love it! And the fact that the custom wide-body was designed and built by the Corvette’s owner just makes it even cooler in my book.

As I mentioned in my first story from Essen 2022, BBBs (Big Body Benzes) were all over the show this year. I see the appeal too, because slammed out with a good set wheels, they look absolutely killer. I call it the European equivalent of Japanese bippu style, and this 420 SE (W126), low-slung on air suspension over 19-inch Artec 3-piece wheels from VIP Modular, looks every bit the part.

SH-EMS-2022-6594

Prior to Essen, I had seen numerous photos of this Alfa Romeo Giulia online, but it looked so much more impressive in person. The wheels – 2-piece Alpha Concepts made by BTS Creawheels in Italy in a 20×11-inch +15 fitment all round – take centerstage, but there’s so much more to this car than first meets the eye. Because while the body looks factory, it’s actually 35mm wider on each side at the front, and 40mm wider on each side at the rear.  The car’s original front bumper was modified to suit the increased width (and fitted with 3D-printed grilles) while the rear bumper is a modified Giulia Q piece. Because there is no off-the-shelf air suspension system currently available for this model, the owner pieced together a custom setup with Air Lift Performance 3P management at its heart.

SH-EMS-2022-6869

German tuner LCE Performance are famous for their Audi Sport Quattro replica builds, and for good reason – they’re stunning. LCE ‘Sportquattro’ builds are available in a number of different forms – for rally use or the road – the latter with 100% TÜV approval, and freely configurable from 300ps up. This particular build is a customer-owned street version.

SH-EMS-2022-Opel-GTE-6495

I featured a bright blue Opel in my first Essen story, and purely by chance there was another in almost the exact same hue. While the first car was an Opel Ascona B, this is an Opel Kadett C GT/E from 1978 that has also received a full nut and bolt restoration. Under the hood is a fully-built race engine good for 253ps – plenty for such a lightweight platform that was then put on a diet with fiberglass doors, hood and trunk lid.

We’ll wrap things up with another BBB – this time a Mercedes-Benz 420 SEC (C126) in Impala Beige with chrome accents and a Lorinser front spoiler. The Lorinser theme continues along the sides with 17-inch RSK2 3-piece wheels, although these beauties have been rebuilt to deep-dish spec using Radinox barrels.

I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage from the 2022 Essen Motor Show. I know I’ll be back in Essen next year; you should try and make it too. In the meantime though, check out some cutting room floor images below.

The Fastest Corvette In Japan – Speedhunters

The Fastest Corvette In Japan

Growing up, I remember seeing a Corvette Stingray in a magazine and thinking it was the craziest car design ever. I was probably around seven or eight years old at the time, and to this day I still think of the Corvette as one of the most beautiful cars ever made.

At Central Circuit’s recent Drag Festival series round, I spent some time looking over a very cool example run by Rod Motors. The ‘Dragvette’ currently holds a Japan Drag Race Driver Association (JDDA) Pro Stock title.

Toby_Thyer_Photographer-71

I was told that the chassis and body are all original, although I’m pretty sure the front end uses a tube frame and of course the rear end has been tubbed so it can accomodate those massive 33x15x15-inch Hoosier drag slicks. Then there’s the hood and iconic rear split-window roof, which are fiberglass.

Toby_Thyer_Photographer-73

As I found out on the day, there’s a brilliant history behind the car and its owner, Mr. Makoto Katsuragi.

Toby_Thyer_Photographer-84

Back in the mid-1970s, Katsuragi-san emigrated to and opened a garage in San Francisco, where he developed a taste for drag racing. Soon after, and during the same year his son Ryo was born, Katsuragi-san started racing a red 1963 Corvette Stingray – the very same car you see today.

Toby_Thyer_Photographer-80
Toby_Thyer_Photographer-89

It’s been raced for nearly five decades, and today competes in Japan in a completely evolved state with Ryo behind the wheel. Up front, a 440ci SBC V8 with nitrous oxide provides the power, while a Powerglide transmission helps get it to the ground.

Toby_Thyer_Photographer-98

It’s amazing to see this 60-year-old car go down the quarter mile in 8.50-seconds at 246km/h – a Japanese drag racing class record.

Toby_Thyer_Photographer-92
Toby_Thyer_Photographer-70

The journey that drag cars and their drivers take to gain split seconds of speed is really something special. It shows that perseverance, dedication, hard work and a fair amount of blood, sweat and tears will allow a few select people to achieve greatness.

Drag racers like Makoto and Ryo Katsuragi are my new heroes.

Once once again, Jim Hrody is out as well as about accumulating pictures of awesome trips on his adventures. This newest show is from the final Morris Illinois Cruise Night of the year and has all sort of awesome and also fun racers, custom-mades, trucks, and also much more. We’ll have a few even more galleries from this show too, so stay tuned for more to come. And also, this is simply among the shows that was going on in Morris that weekend as well as he visited the others also!

(Words as well as Photos by Jim Hrody) Once a month from June through October, Morris, Illinois has what probably is the largest ‘downtown’ cruise night in the Chicago-Joliet region. A matter of 700 vehicles & & vehicles is not uncommon, with the greatest total amount to day reaching as high as 975 automobiles. A various charity every month take advantage of the every night earnings. With the October version being the latest metropolitan cruise ship evening in the area, the last among the period for Morris, as well as with numerous automobiles getting enhanced for Halloween, you never ever recognize what’s going to turn up.

Here’s out second gallery of photos from the Nitro Revival.(Photos by Wes Allison) When the Nitro Revival started a couple of years ago at Irwindale I was type of hesitant. Not because the cars and trucks or the people involved weren’t legitimate, yet due to the fact that I questioned the location. While practical, Irwindale is a tiny drag strip with an unusual format that is a great area for a cars and truck program however that isn’t constantly the very best for an actual race. It turns out that this location is ideal for this occasion. Not only does it use fantastic program room, but the 1/8th mile track is plenty for putting on the kind of show that this event is everything about. And also with up close grandstands as well as lots of fencing to socialize on the followers obtain a bird’s-eye view of all the nitro vehicles babbling away.

Fortunate for us, Wes Allison headed over to fire images and also guy did he obtain some excellent stuff. I am talking impressive images that are the kind you ‘d want to blow up as well as hold on the wall surface in your living-room. Just look at the sunset in a few of these! And also those nitro flames, come on.

This occasion has turned into something truly special and I’m unfortunate I couldn’t exist to examine it out face to face this year, but once again this program simply exactly how hardcore Southern California auto society is and we love it.

Remember that all the images below will certainly get bigger if you click on them and then you can scroll via the entire gallery. We’ve got extra coming too!

Riko’s Meeting: Celebrating Japanese Car Culture in California – Speedhunters

Riko’s Meeting: Celebrating Japanese Car Culture in California

      Sunrise

My breath hung in the cool air as I pulled out my camera and made my way toward some hot caffeine. The green neon accent lights bordering the roofline of the recently-restored Niles Flying A service shop glowed brighter than the clouded sky.

The familiar sound of our favorite four-bangers – and a few sixes here and there – sliced through the crisp morning silence. An excited murmur spread through the growing crowd each time another car buzzed by; cars which were now filling the overflow lot down the road. Before the sun began to rise above the rolling hills beyond, Niles Boulevard in Fremont, California was already packed with old school Japanese cars.

Riko’s Meeting was well and underway, and it was barely 7:00am.

      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_002
      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_063

My camera was pushed beyond its capabilities shooting handheld in the light of dawn, and I couldn’t believe how many people made it up before the sun to get a good spot at the Cars & Coffee-esque gathering. I’m not sure what the exact recipe is for a good event, but Riko’s Meeting had the key ingredients nailed.

      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_021
      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_005

The location was well thought-out, with the Niles Flying A providing a fantastic hub for the natural ebb and flow of enthusiasts as they meandered about, grabbing coffee or donuts and catching up with friends. Riko rented out the space for the morning, which is nestled into the historic Niles district in Fremont. Old buildings and homes line the wide sidewalks across the street, and the aesthetic is completed by a couple of vintage American cars parked out back.

      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_064

Generally this area is inundated with American muscle, but not today. The semi-curated turnout consisted only of Japanese cars, mostly those produced in the pre-2000s (just as advertised in pre-event flyers that made the social media rounds). Riko collaborated with Roger Hernandez, who organizes weekly import-centric Cars & Coffee meets in the nearby city Hayward, to help promote the event and ensure a solid turnout of vintage Japanese metal.

      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_020

A few nice late-model builds snuck in as well, as did a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia. And a food truck, which had delicious tacos and breakfast burritos, though somewhat regrettably I only tried the former later in the day.

      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_026

There was one other Volkswagen on site as well, a bus-turned-pop-up boba tea shop that was situated out front of the Flying A.

      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_025

Riko’s AE86 was parked up front and center nearby, featuring his signature gold finish and an ITB-fed 3S-GE behind a Levin nose. The car has already been featured on Speedhunters – as has his matching 993 RWB and IMSA-style 240Z for that matter – so I won’t spend much time on it beyond a few photos to remind you how wild this SEMA Show build is.

With SEMA right around the corner again, it’s great to see that many of these cars do in fact have a life beyond the Las Vegas Convention Center.

      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_068

While the venue, cars, drinks and food were great, the people are the glue that holds a personable show like this together. Being a local gathering (just a few miles from my front door, actually) there were lots of familiar faces that filled the sidewalks on the east end of Niles Boulevard.

But you know how events like this are. It doesn’t matter if you know someone or not; you can just walk right up and start asking them about their wheels, their suspension, their seats, who rebuilt their carburetors, where they got that Honda sweatshirt, or whatever.

      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_054

Although things have been rebooted here in the US for a good year or so, I feel like I’m still recovering from more than a year of stagnated events and gatherings due to Covid. Since things have gotten back to normal, I’ve been to a number of Cars & Coffee gatherings, but somehow Riko’s Meeting was extra refreshing.

      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_035
      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_034

More than 100 cars – and even more people – came through the meet, which lasted the full four hours from 7:00am to 11:00am, and then some. It was the first time in a long time that I spent more than an hour or two at a meet like this, and it also was the first time in a long time that I found myself shooting far more than I needed to.

      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_013

There was a bit of everything on display. From completely stock examples to the ultra-modified; from kei cars to off-roading machines; from carbureted inline-fours to twin-turbocharged V8s. It’s amazing how much variation can be found within a single chassis, let alone the many different models from various marques that made it out to Riko’s meeting.

      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_033

Before things dwindled down and everyone got on with the rest of their weekend, Riko held a raffle full of small items from Japan, including car magazines, an unopened Initial D manga set – that I really wished I had won – and an authentic Japanese nudie mag, among other things. Best of all, tickets were free; you just had to show up.

      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_070
      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_046

The raffle – and the whole show for that matter – was Riko’s way of contributing to the community, and to the growing base of JDM enthusiasts. Riko explained that while many others his age have moved on to Lamborghinis or Ferraris, he has stayed true to what he’s always loved: old school Japanese cars.

      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_048
      2022-Rikos-Meeting-Flying-A-Niles-California_Trevor-Ryan-Speedhunters_072

While I would consider the gathering a smashing success, it’s clear that Riko wants more. He points to events like Pebble Beach or the more recently-formed Velocity Invitational – which took place the same weekend – and notes that there isn’t really a Japanese-centric equivalent in the US.

JCCS in SoCal or marque-specific events like ZCON or NSXPO are the closest that come to mind, but they certainly don’t hold the prestige or cachet of shows like Pebble or The Quail. The Japanese Automotive Invitational – a Pebble Beach sub-event – is a good step in the right direction, and a sign that Japanese cars are finally being appreciated for the gems that they are.

But for Riko, the sky’s the limit, and he wants to do his part in pushing the scene forward in the US. So he’s here, raising his flag for Japanese car culture. What’s next? Only time will tell.

Before heading home, I pulled out a ‘3D’ film camera that I picked up from my good friend John Cirone during Covid times and gave it a try for the first time. I may get reprimanded for uploading such large files (give them a second to load), but enjoy.

I’ll be back soon to shine a spotlight on a couple of my favorite cars from Riko’s Meeting. Thanks to everyone who showed up and made the event what it was.

Ardennen Rennen: The Gentleman Racer Reunion – Speedhunters

Ardennen Rennen: The Gentleman Racer Reunion

The Ardennen Rennen – subtitled The Gentleman Racer Reunion – is a new rally event held in the famous Ardennes region of Spa, Belgium.

I’ve been involved with air-cooled cars for over 10 years now, and in that time have attended all the big themed events around Europe. So when I received an invite to photograph Ardennen Rennen – an event focussed on driving and enjoying rare ‘old speed’ (AKA period correctly tuned) air-cooled cars, I was hyped to say the least.

        SH_DSC04594
        SH_DSC04680

The organizers of the Ardennen Rennen are not just air-cooled Volkswagen and Porsches fans, they live and breathe them. Frederic (Freddy) and Mike are absolute legends in the European air-cooled scene and are very well known for their other events – the European Bug-In, Freddy’s Revival Files and the Das Drag Day. These are all hugely popular, weekend-long get-togethers, focused on air-cooled cars and vintage drag racing.

        SH_DSC05258

As you’d expect, both Freddy and Mike have each acquired a number of interesting air-cooled vehicles over the years, and driving their ‘old speed’ cars through the Belgian Ardennes region around the famous Spa-Francorchamps circuit inspired them to organize this event.

        SH_DSC05200
        SH_DSC04735

The Ardennen Rennen pays tribute to the road rallies of yesteryear, and for the first event charted a route from Liège to Bastogne and back again over the course of a full day’s driving. Competitors met on Saturday afternoon at R-Hotel in Aywaille, and set off first thing Sunday morning.

        SH_DSC05154

It’s not just about cars though. The event celebrated the whole vibe of 1960s ‘gentleman racers’, so cars plus period clothing and even old school navigating.

        SH_DSC05262

This first ever running of the Ardennen Rennen was attended and enjoyed by 16 teams (driver and co-driver). Equipped with vintage stopwatches and tripmeters, they covered around 200kms of amazing roads, albeit mostly in wet conditions.

        SH_DSC04756
        SH_DSC05117

I think it’s safe to say that most classic Volkswagen and Porsche owners would prefer to keep their cars dry and warm, so chasing them around the pine forest roads of the Ardennes was an absolute blast.

Here’s Jim’s second gallery of images from

this incredible looking show!( Words and also Photos by Jim Hrody) Appleton, Wisconsin lies in the east-central section of the state, about 30 miles southwest of Green Bay. Each July, the Appleton Old Car Show takes control of a 36 acre parcel called Pierce Park. This program is not delegated to one little edge. Every readily available location had something to see, whether it was under a cover of trees, in an open section of yard, on the asphalt of a car park, or around the ball park.

Historically, 1000-plus autos and also trucks, varying from the brass-era to the late smog-era remain in participation. This year was the 44th yearly variation, with the newest eligible version year being 1992. Likewise on hand were a sizeable flea market, a craft reasonable, and food trucks scattered around.

This program has been featured on My Classic Car in the past, however still, I had no concept of the range of points for my first browse through. We showed up regarding 10:00 am, which generally wouldn’t seem far too late, but still had to drive about for a half hr hunting for someplace, anywhere to park. Finally located
a spot, though 7 blocks away. At the end of the day, this program is a must-see.

The A-Messe Japan Spotlight Selection – Speedhunters

          The A-Messe Japan Spotlight Selection

Living in Japan, there’s not much choice when it comes to cheese. It’s either mozzarella or expensive, bland camembert and brie. The same goes for most foreign products. Luckily though, when it comes to cars in Japan, you’re absolutely spoiled for choice.

But that fact brings about its own challenges when putting together a post like this one. I can never make my mind up; there are just too many great cars to choose from. So, as always, the cars I’m about to share with you may not be the fastest, the most highly tuned or even the coolest, but they are the ones that held my goldfish-like attention span for more than 36 seconds at A-Messe Japan, held at Fuji Speedway a few weeks back.

First up is this slate grey BNR32 Nissan Skyline GT-R sporting a Rocket Bunny Pandem wide-body kit.

          Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-1
          Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-7

A custom orange leather interior is a surefire way to grab my attention, especially when there’s a spearhead where the gear shifter should be. I’ve organised a shoot with the GT-R’s owner, so watch this space for a more detailed look in the coming weeks.

          Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-13
          Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-11

Keeping with the Pandem theme for a moment, next up we have this wide-body EG Civic on a set of special edition RAYS Volk Racing TE37Vs. Throw an oversized wing into the mix and you’ve got the recipe for Honda perfection.

          Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-18

I’m told there’s a B18C5 engine from a DC2 Integra Type R under the hood, so this build might warrant a closer look in the future. Who’d like to see more?

          Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-21

I did warn you that some of these picks are not the fastest or coolest, but this little Suzuki Cultus (Swift), which has been restyled to look like its USDM-spec equivalent, the Geo Metro, was unique in a sea of mostly-stanced tuner cars.

          Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-24

Scissor doors on cars that never came with scissor doors are another thing that always make me smile.

          Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-31

I admire the time and engineering that’s gone into building this Mazda RX-8, although looking at the obvious race car intentions – and subtle nod to Mad Mike Whiddett’s ‘BADBUL’ when it was in its 2010 Need for Speed guise, I would be interested to know how much weight the new mechanisms add.

          1_Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-51

These wild US-style minitrucks greeted punters at the main entrance to A-Messe, but I can’t help but think they should have been at the centre of the action, getting the appreciation they truly deserve.

          Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-37
          Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-40

This first of the trio is a 1995 Toyota Hilux with a small block Chevy 350ci V8 engine in place of the original four-pot.

          Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-32

Next up is a Nissan 720, an actual USDM import, hence the steering wheel on the left side of the cabin.

          Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-34

There’s no V8 in this one, rather a 2.4L Z24 engine, which was only offered in the US. It’s a fully-tuned motor with a high-lift cam and Weber side-draught carbs. Oh, and plenty of chrome.

The wheels are Boyd Coddington items – mirror-finished of course – with Wilwood brakes tucked in behind. Like most minitrucks, this 720 rides on air suspension, and I love how the control unit has been integrated into the roofline.

          Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-41

The final minitruck is another Hilux, this time a 2003 model, also on air and with fully removable rear bodywork. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the cool party trick this time though.

          Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-42
          Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-46

From the suicide doors to the custom dash, all the way to the utterly impractical tray space, this thing is absolutely mind-blowing. Under the hood is a 1995 LT1 5.7L V8, an engine usually found in Corvettes and Camaros, so I bet it drives as intensely as it looks.

          1_Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-61

I think these minitrucks are a riot, but what about you? If you’d like to see more, I’m sure I can ask the owners nicely for a feature.

          Toby_Thyer_Photographer_-10

My final pick from A-Messe Japan 2022 is this USDM Datsun 280ZX Turbo. Anything with ’80s-style turbo decals along the side will see me swooning for several minutes, but there’s so much more to unpack here so I’ve booked a shoot with the owner of this one too.
